How it works, in ninety seconds

A short film of the calculator at work: the questions, the artery, the hundred hearts and the what-if.

The calculator at work, with one example profile. No sound.

The three steps

  1. Answer. Sex, age, smoking, blood pressure, cholesterol, and a few questions that only apply to some people. Every answer may be "I don't know".
  2. See. Your risk as a count out of a hundred, next to the same count with ideal values, and the artery that narrows exactly as much.
  3. Try. Lower the blood pressure, lower the cholesterol, stop smoking, lose weight. The count and the artery answer live.

What the film shows

The film follows one example profile: a 58-year-old man who smokes, with a systolic pressure of 160 and a total cholesterol of 6.8 mmol/L. His ten-year count is 27 of 100; with ideal values it would be 6. Lowering his pressure to 130 and his LDL to 2.6 brings him to 9, and stopping smoking as well takes him to 5. None of this is advice for him or for you; it is what the models say about a group of people with those numbers.
